And there seems to be quite a market in 'non-standard' patches. Example:
my favorite loopback driver mods weren't accepted, so I maintain them
myself. The linuxHQ and big mama have extensive collections of such
'after-market' patches.

If a developer has a personal bias against your idea, code it yourself.
That's the short and simple solution. If enough people eventually like
your patch, it will get integrated.
