the attached patch is very similar to one at
http://www.shawc.demon.co.uk/ftape.2.1.70.reverse.patch.2.gz that
shaw@shawc.demon.co.uk had sent me a day or two before that has allowed
the kernel to build correctly I am guessing. I am now on to other problems
to post about in a seperate message....

just looking at your patch, it seems to be almost identical (if not very
shortened) version of the patch at the above URL.
