hi all

I'm using linux on i486 dx50 as router and dialup server

Computer is brandnamed tulip of 1995 year, so there are no LBA support
in bios

After some problem with previous 210Mb hdd (low free space etc) I changed
old 210Mb hdd to new:

/dev/hda:

Model=ST91351AG, FwRev=06.06.02, SerialNo=RN108820
Config={ Fixed }
RawCHS=2616/16/63, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=16
BuffType=0(?), BuffSize=0kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=off
DblWordIO=no, maxPIO=2(fast), DMA=yes, maxDMA=0(slow)
CurCHS=2616/16/63, CurSects=2636928, LBA=yes, LBAsects=2636986
tDMA={min:120,rec:120}, DMA modes: *mword0 mword1 mword2
IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:363,w/IORDY:120}, PIO modes: mode3 mode4

After reading ./Documentation/ide.txt I am installed EZ driver
to masterboot record, slakware 3.4 2.0.30 kernel from bootdisk normally
detects lba translation and all installed ok

Disk /dev/hda: 64 heads, 63 sectors, 654 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 4032 * 512 bytes

Device Boot Begin Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 18 18 654 1284192 83 Linux native
/dev/hda2 1 1 17 34240+ 82 Linux swap

Below parts from kernel logs

when booting kernel 2.0.30 from floppy i got next messages about hdd
.....
Jan 12 04:57:58 Admin kernel: hda: ST91351AG, 1287MB w/0kB Cache, LBA, CHS=654/64/63
.....
Jan 12 04:57:58 Admin kernel: hda: [EZD] [remap 0->1] [654/64/63] hda1 hda2
.....

this messages from 2.0.30 zimage booted via lilo from /dev/hda1
.....
Jan 12 05:06:12 Admin kernel: hda: ST91351AG, 1287MB w/0kB Cache, CHS=654/64/63
.....
Jan 12 05:06:12 Admin kernel: hda: [EZD] [remap 0->1] [654/64/63] hda1 hda2
.....

FIRST stupid question - why kernel don't print LBA before CHS=... ? when
booted from hdd
All read/writing seems normal and there are no problem during more than 6 days of kernel
running ...
In version 5.53 of ide.c "LBA" removed from booot message, so
maybe problem in kernel compiled by slakware mantainers

And now my problem - kernel 2.1.69,72,79 don't boot, they
identificate hdd as
....
hda: ST91351AG, 1287MB w/0kB Cache, CHS=654/64/63
....
hda: [EZD] [654/64/63] hda1 hda2 < >
....

With missed "remap" feature :((

And as result there is "kernel panic" with "can't mount root in device
major X minor Y"
