Hi All,
I delete a lot of email by looking at the subject, and I remember
trashed several messages with the subject of this post. Then I read
a few and realized that some of them were personal emails to me
concerning a prior post I had made to linux-kernel. First, I feel
like an idiot, and would like to appoligize to anyone who does not
get their email answered. I always try to answer personal email.
Secondly, several of these emails were asking for pointers to the
Electric Fence package I had mentioned, so I thought I would put
that information here.

Electric Fence was written by Bruce Perens, and its purpose is to
make programs which incorrectly use allocated memory crash sooner
rather than later. It can be very useful for tracking down things
like using free()ed memory or closing file descriptors multiple
times. There is an online manual page at:

http://lune.csc.liv.ac.uk/hppd/hpux/Languages/ElectricFence-2.0.5/man.html

I know Red Hat includes Electric Fence in both their 4.2 and 5.0
distributions. The package for 5.0 is called ElectricFence-2.0.5-5
so you should be able to get either the source or the binary
by hunting around on ftp.redhat.com. Try giving their ftp server
the command:

site exec locate ElectricFence

Hope this helps,

Jim
