i am still trying to get sound working (SB-PnP, kernel 2.1.89). I did now
compile the sound-part in the kernel, no module, the card is configured with
isapnp-tools.
I thing that i am missing is in old kernels there was a point to select in
kernel config: /dev/audio & /dev/dsp, this point isn't anymore in the sound
selection.... so i suppose they are set automaticly?
nevertheless, theres somewhere a problem:
cat /dev/sndstat
OSS/Free:3.8s2++-971130
Load type: Driver compiled into kernel
Kernel: Linux yoda 2.1.89 #5 Thu Mar 12 00:11:29 MET 1998 i686
Config options: 0
Installed drivers:
Type 26: MPU-401 (UART)
Type 2: Sound Blaster
Type 29: Sound Blaster PnP
Type 7: SB MPU-401
Card config:
(Sound Blaster at 0x220 irq 5 drq 1,5)
(SB MPU-401 at 0x330 irq 1 drq 0)
Audio devices:
Synth devices:
Midi devices:
Timers:
0: System clock
Mixers:
but issuing a command like cat ~bboett/tmp/sound/pink_panther.au >/dev/audio
produces bash: /dev/audio: No such device or address
configured with isapnp:
(CONFIGURE CTL0086/222056003 (LD 0
# ANSI string -->Audio<--
(INT 0 (IRQ 5 (MODE +E)))
(DMA 0 (CHANNEL 1))
(DMA 1 (CHANNEL 5))
(IO 0 (BASE 0x0220))
(IO 1 (BASE 0x0330))
(IO 2 (BASE 0x0388))
(ACT Y)
))
and kernel 2.1.89 config:
CONFIG_SOUND=y
CONFIG_SB=y
CONFIG_SB_BASE=220
CONFIG_SB_IRQ=5
CONFIG_SB_DMA=1
CONFIG_SB_DMA2=5
CONFIG_SB_MPU_BASE=330
CONFIG_SB_MPU_IRQ=-1
And no choice for selection /dev/audio was present....
so what's going wrong????
ciao
