IŽve been trying harder to make kernel 2.0.33 fail and... it failed like
2.1.89 and greater:

I got the same type of errors, but the system kept running.
SCSI disk error : host 1 channel 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 28000002
Deferred error sd08:01: sense key Hardware Error
Additional sense indicates Peripheral device write fault
scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 664, absolute sector 727
SCSI disk error : host 1 channel 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 28000002
Deferred error sd08:01: sense key Hardware Error
Additional sense indicates Peripheral device write fault
scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 748, absolute sector 811
SCSI disk error : host 1 channel 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 28000002
Deferred error sd08:01: sense key Hardware Error
Additional sense indicates Peripheral device write fault
scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 2, absolute sector 65
SCSI disk error : host 1 channel 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 28000002
Deferred error sd08:01: sense key Hardware Error
Additional sense indicates Peripheral device write fault
scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 393250, absolute sector 393313
EXT2-fs error (device 08:01): ext2_read_inode: unable to read inode block - inode=49153, block=196625

It looks like 2.0.33 handles better SCSI media errors
I think that when swap get a bit filled up, errors start happening in
all partitions.

IŽll keep on looking.
