once again, there's a new kernel out, before I was able to post my bug
report, but I still do it:
In all recent kernels (tested 2.1.82 - 2.1.90), I had problems with
printing through lpr.
My printer, a plain old Deskjet 500, is connected on /dev/lp0, all
printcap entries are OK.
When I, for example, want to print something through ghostscript (the
output device is "| lpr"), in 50% of all times, it works without
any problems, but the other 50%, it simply doesn't print.
In these cases, it's reported, that "lp0 is offline".
BUT: the printer (which is definitely connected on /dev/lp0) is
definitely NOT offline. But something is still strange - the printer
is somehow locked. I cannot put him offline (!) with the keys on the
printer.
I have no clue, what is wrong. Sometimes, printing works, sometimes
not.
Do you know, what may go wrong here?
Ciao and thank you
Christoph
