I have a new AMD-K6 machine and can't get X running (other than in VGA
mode).

As pointed out in the egcs FAQ and on this list it is a bug in 2.0.x
arch/i386/ioport.c that is fixed in 2.1.70+. But for me, the problem
remains after an update of ioport.c to the 2.1.70 version. Any ideas?

I have tried both on Debian 1.3.1 (linux-2.0.29, gcc-2.7.2.1, XFree86)
and Redhat 5.0 (linux-2.0.31, gcc-2.7.2.3, MetroX).
