And these video cards pass without any problems
test like "x11perf --all" ?
No problem overloading, but staying in, X ?
(i.e. RAM *really* OK ?)

Let me add a datapoint or two: Over two systems, 4 video cards, X
reliably dies on me if I'm switching between text and X. It seems to
happen if X tries to draw anything while I'm in a text mode.
The cards have been: a cirrus 5434 (?), a Trident (don't remember what
chip), a S3 Virge, and a ATI Graphics Ultra Pro.
*If* I don't switch, I'm fine. I've had multiple Netscape windows,
emacs, xv, and a povray session open at the same time on a 32 meg
P166. Ran fine, albeit unusably slowly till the povray finished.
I was ~80M into swap......
I have only occasionally had X lock up my system on me--but when it
has, nothing short of a reboot would fix it.
If KGI+libggi will fix this, I'm all for it.
