Netscape and Sound in 2.1.92

Netscape still locks up if left running overnight in Linux 2.1.92. ps x
shows it at about 27:01... if that 27 is hours of processor time it is
way off. I had only been in Linux for about 8 hours or less. Anyway.
(It crashed again when left idle while working on this message.
I killall netscape and it allowed me to save it in the draft folders but
didn't allow me to regain control beyond that.)

Here are my thoughts on the sound problem. They maybe way off, but it
is a theory, and I haven't validated it against any code. I thought
that whoever is doing the sound code right now would be able to check
and verify my idea quickly and correctly.

It seems that all of those who are having log messages like "Apr 3
01:09:22 arabian kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config
error?" are using Sound Blaster 16 family of cards. (If anyone is
having these problems that is not using a SB16 sorry, I didn't know.)
These cards are a PnP of sort. I believe they predate most PnP
standards. Is it possible this PnP code has been removed or is
initializing the card incorrectly?

These cards do have jumpers that set the power on default, but most of
the settings are still soft-configurable. So some people may not be
experiencing these problems unless the setup code is still there and is
just very messed up. I am going to try to have time to remove the case
and make the default the same as what the software is supposed to
configure it as and see if that helps (I believe it is already this way
but cannot remember, it has been years since I touched the jumpers).

This is just a theory that hit me while I lay in bed trying to sleep
last night. Anyway, I hope it helps solve the problem even if it is
incorrect.
