Now for some hardware. Built in parallel port on an Asus P55TP4 mb @
0x378 irq 7. Tried every setting in the BIOS (normal, EPP, and whatever
else there was). I recognize the problem with kmod so I tried with
modules (loaded by hand) and built into the kernel. Every time, the port
is successfully found by parport_pc but is sometimes reported by lpq as
being "offline". I am printing to a HP DeskJet 540 and have also tried it
with a Panasonic KX-P4420 laser printer.
PS - I am using the printer filter that comes with RedHat 5.0 but I get
the same results if I try cat > /dev/lp0.
