PC-120 ARCnet cards failing :(

Hello, I'm so dejected. I bought these snazzy PC-120 arcnet
cards, and even found turbo roms for em! But they don't seem to wanna
detect right in 2 out of 4 machines. Here is a list:

PPro-166: Work
386DX25: Work
486DX2/66: No Go
P-133: No Go

Here is the source of my frustration:

com90xx.c: v3.00 97/11/09 Avery Pennarun <apenwarr@bond.net> et al.
arc0: ARCnet COM90xx: station FFh found at 2C0h, IRQ 7, ShMem C8000h (1*800h).

Station ID 0xff ... What is UP with that? And as soon as I try
to configure the card, the kernel crashes.
I've noticed that the cards didn't wanna work in the 386 when it
had a video card in it, but the card started working when I pulled the
card out. Am I violating some sort of memory mapping here? [It's a
generic VGA card]
Has anyone else had these same [or similar] problems? I've been
stumped by this for months now. What should I do so that I can make use
of my snazzy arcnet hubs and cards and turbo roms? :)
Thanks, gurus! :)
