In my case, I found that just leaving CONFIG_APM_DIPLAY_BLANK
undefined was the answer. In any case, the bios toggles the backlight
w/o kernel interaction. I can even enter the bios's config mode,
chang ethings, and return w/o negative impact to the kernel or my
usermode apps. (Well, realtime apps might be impacted, but I don't
run those on 486sx/25s.... :)
