Hello,
Well you spent the entire day with this, I spent 2 weeks with that
wonderful SCSI creation of Compaq's. My advice to you would be to
disable it in the bios and if you want to go SCSI get a better adapter and
make great use of one of those ISA slots ya have, your second choice
would be to use the onboard IDE controller, that is what I have chosen to
do and have gotten great results. If you take that option you will have to
change the state of SW1 of the DIP on the expansion card, and also
make sure the switches on the back of the SmartStation are set to "D"
and "B". If you are going to put this on the network, you are going to
want to stay away from the onboard controller as well, this is a NEC
want to be and has proven to be very temperamental and unreliable at
best (this was also confirmed by direct mail to some other SmartStation
users). I stuck in a 3c509 and have had great results from that as well.

Sparrow is the Adaptec AHA-151x/152x AIC6260/6360 (probably
supports
the AVA-1505 as well). Either way, its the aha152x driver under Linux.
