if ide-floppy is loaded as a module, i have successfully crashed my
system twice copying files to a ext2 formatted zipdisk
cant reproduce when not compiled as module.
on a side note:

i got this 3 times when copying large (100M+) files to this drive.
everything is silent for about 5 seconds, then it restarts copying again.
new drive is a quantum UDMA 4.3 gig IDE drive, use EIDE pio Mode 4..
drive was on its own controller at the time.
