Sound in 2.1.9x/X

I noticed weird problem:
some activitie in X result in a short timeouts in playing MP3.
For example each new line that comes from server in BitchX in xterm,
scrolling in netscape, etc. But editing some file, other activities do
nothing.
I don't remember when that started, but my guess would be that it's
because of
kernel (2.1.9x) or AccelX (Multihead). If any1 had this kind of problems
- tell me plz.
BTW, it seems it's not network-related (my first idea was that it's
network activity), but
ping -f has no effect. So it's probably video output...
