To add two more data points....

My compile times are:

GW NS8000-2/333 (Dual 333 PII) 256MB, Cheetah system drive) RH 5.0
2.0.34 compile: 1:41 (make dep; make clean; make -j bzlilo)

GW NS9000-4/200 (Quad 200 PPro) 512MB, Cheetah system drive) RH 5.0
2.0.34 compile: 1:13 (make dep; make clean; make -j bzlilo)

I've noticed that glibc-based systems tend to compile somewhat faster than
libc5 counterparts using identical hardware, perhaps this accounts for
some of the discrepancies.

And for a note of nostalgia: I remember one kernel compile WAY WAY long
ago on a 386SX-16 with a not-quite-all-together old MFM 40MB harddrive and
4MB of memory. Kernel compile took 26 drive-grinding hours. Kernel
source was a lot smaller then too (I think we were up to .99pl4).
