It's not really bad news. Putting out a half-working and
sluggish product just when everyone is looking your way
and all your users are frustrated isn't _that_ good a
move :)

Maybe it's time to start marketing a Linux-2000 as soon
as 2.2 is out...

This makes MS look even more like the evil moguls
America had in the start of the century. Having a
bad (ie: even more sluggish and instable) product
shoved down your throat, just when you are fed up
with the non-reliability of '95 is the last thing
consumers want.
'98 might just be the best opportunity other OS
vendors have had for years...
