I only had to upgrade modutils and pppd and make (because I opted to get 5.4.44).
This is a Slackware 96 system...2.1.95. My Slackware 3.4 systems at work only needed new
modutils...2.1.99. Much smoother transition than from 1.3 -> 2.0.
