16-bit SoundBlaster DMA

Hi,
Would anybody happen to know any documentation on DMA, 16-bit DMA
specifically, perhaps in relation to PnP, and maybe even sound card
interaction with DMA channels?
So far, even trying (DMA 0 (CHANNEL 5)) and using dma16=5 doesn't give me any
5: SoundBlaster16
For that matter, *all* I get is
1: SoundBlaster8

Even forcing dma=5 results in
5: SoundBlaster8

Any ideas?
