OK. You've convinced me to abandon my advocacy of the
approach of just declaring that the linux personality defines
a predetermined initial value of the floating point control word.
I will back the change out of our source tree as soon as one of
the other solutions is implemented. I will be happy with any of
the three other solutions discussed (pass it in auxilliary elf
information, define a new system call, emulate the set FPU control
word instruction in software when the FPU is inactive).

For my part, I will tinker with emulating the set floating
point control word in software to see if I can get it into a shape
that I like (it is, after all, only a three byte instruction), but
I would be happy with an implementation of either of the other
approaches, especially if it looks like that change will be integrated
into the standard releases of the kernel and glibc.
