After netscape had used up about all of my swap space, my Pentium with
32Mb went silent. The disks would make noises for under a second, about
every 20 seconds or so.

After I hit reset it said that it couldn't find a swap-space signature on
my IDE disk.

That worries me.

I've got two 16Mb swap partitions: /dev/hda4 and /dev/sda1.
