I have similar problems with the 5.0.18 aic7xxx driver in 2.1.104 through
106-ac1. Going back to 5.0.13 fixes it. The symptom is endless bus
rescanning at boot time, making further booting rather impossible. This
is on a Compaq Deskpro 6000 with one ultra-narrow drive on the bus
(messages from 2.1.106ac1 with the 5.0.13 driver):

The termination reported above is correct. I also tried futzing around
with different termination (and other) options in the card config, but
nothing I did could change the perpetual busrescan behavior, so I set
things back to where they were and went back to the 5.0.13 driver.
