Odd semi-freeze

The oddest thing just happened to me -- During boot, right after the
"starting sendmail: sendmail" line printed by the boot-sequence, my system
apparently hung for nearly a minute. During this time, no process showed up
as "current" in sysrq-t, and sysrq-p showed an EIP of 0xc018e26f, right in
the middle of apm_do_idle. ('c018e23c T apm_do_idle; c018e2a8 T
apm_do_busy'). The system is a Pentium 166 with an Award BIOS. (I could
lookup the version strings if anybody wants, but i'd have to reboot...)
