Regression tests almost never get done because people look at all the
things they want to test and it is too many.

Here's my suggestion: just start writing tests for the areas that you
care about. I'll happily provide space on bitmover for such a test
suite. I can also help with the test harness (think about lmbench,
it is essentially such a test suite but it measures performance, not
correctness). If this gets rolling to the point of being useful, I'll
dedicate a machine that can be used for testing and make some sort of
boot into test-mode setup so we can automate the regression tests.
