I have a strange problem with an HP Kayak XU PC.
Sometimes (two or three times in a week), the machine hangs apparently
with no reason, and I found a log like this:

Jun 24 00:03:32 big kernel: eth0: transmit timed out, status 007b,
resetting.
Jun 24 00:03:32 big kernel: Ring data dump: dirty_tx 64249 cur_tx 64265

The hardware configuration is:

PII 300 Mhz, 128 MB RAM DIMM

Adaptec AIC-7880 Ultra SCSI host adapter
SCSI disk Seagate 4 GB UW
Adaptec AIC-7860 Ultra SCSI host adapter
HP DDS2 multitape

PCnet/PCI II 79C971A

SVGA Matrox Millenium II AGP

This hardware manifest some strange behaviour: the two Adaptec adapters
and the PCNet are using the same IRQ (9). Also, sometimes the keyboard
"disappear"; as I run some critical applications, disconnecting and
reconnecting the keyboard solve the problem without rebooting.

Unfortunately, until now any malfunction appeared when no operator
is present.

The last fault, as stated in the log quoting, appeared at midnight, but
I've found some evidence of possible troubles four hours before (from
Jun 23 20:00). The backup scheduled via cron at 20:12 started at 0:03...

I suspect an hardware fault, but I need to be completely sure before
calling the technical support (Linux is "unofficially" installed :-) in
place of NT)

Thank you very much for any help.
