aic7xxx loops while booting

Hello everybody.
The aic7xxx driver on my box in 2.1.10[56] loops while booting.
After recognizing the scsi host adapter it goes to an infinite loop
(well, I didn't give it too much tries). The messages are like these (not
exactly, they cannot be in a log of course):

...
<Adaptec AIC-7870 SCSI host adapter>
scsi: 1 host
Scanning channel for devices...
(first disk found)

SCSI host 0 (pid 2) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
SCSI host 0 channel 0 reset (pid 2) timed out - trying harder

And repeating the last three lines.
2.1.103, 2.0.* boots fine. I don't understand to these messages, but I
suppose that there is either a hardware conflict or a small bug/feature
appearing only in new kernels.

Hardware configuration:
Pentium 133, 128 MB RAM
1 adapter aic7xxx with 3 disks, 1 CD-ROM, 1 tape
video adapter based on S3 chip
The kernel was compiled as bzImage, was about 560 KB long.
This is just a report, I'm quite happy with the 2.1.103 kernel.
