Hi:

There has been much commentary regarding how to preserve an old kernel
in case the new one does not work. I have not, however, seen any
commentary about what to do with the modules.

If I wish to rebuild my current kernel to change what is a module and
what is resident, or to apply a patch, how do I protect the old set of
modules, and make it so that the old kernel will use the old set of
modules and that the new kernel will use the new set of modules? The
modules always seem to get stored in "/lib/modules/<kernel-version>".
