Hmmm.... I thought that the 'rusting' effect was not only a result of
fragmentation, but also somewhat the opposite. The dcache is responsible
for the fragmentation in 2.1.x, but I thought that some of the 'rusting'
was a result of Linus 'fixing' 2.1.x to make it more stable and have the
right interface semantics.

But, I thought I overheard that this interface change damaged the
effectiveness of the dcache code, which would hurt process run times....
