Block/Page caching of files: how to find what to cache?

Given a caching fs where entire files are written to a disk from
say a CD-ROM other other device where the originating fs is
referenced, is there a way to access what pages/blocks where
used to do block/page caching after the fact (i.e., after the
originating fs accessed the file but then you want to use the
caching fs to cache what was used)?

It would be good to allow caching regardless of the fs type or
originating device otherwise the routines (i.e., on read()) to
cache from a one particular fs could just be changed.

thanks,
Scott
