NO.
I used IDE DMA all the time with 1.3.x and 2.0.x kernels, enabled by
hdparm. I have never had a problem, even with two WD drives under heavy
load.
Mark's IDE driver works well for the vast majority of people. Right now,
my disk throughput is way down because I can't enable DMA, even with
hdparm. I don't see the point in disabling DMA for everyone just because
of a few problems which might not be caused by the IDE driver in the first
place.
