problems accessing mailserver

I have been having problems accessing my isps mailserver with fetchmail.
Mail retreval is noticably faster on 2.0.33.

Below is a short clip of the problem, I am willing to play with this to
discover the problem. ( Ihave plenty of time beleave me).

This is over the ppp link, modem is USR Sportster 33.6. At the moment only
running fetchmail.
