Over the time I've collected a couple of reports of filesystem corruption
on MIPS system, primarily SGI Indys. All of them were repeatable when
writing to the entire disk (/dev/sdX), that is the disk was not partitioned.
In all these cases the disk corruption was cured by putting the filesystems
on a partition.

This may or may not be related to the IDE related disk corruption being
discussed in this thread. It might as well be an architecture specific
problem though the probability is low since the problem has been reported
from various MIPS configurations with different kernels, differing
endianess etc, so at the moment it more smells like a generic problem.

I think in none of the cases IDE was involved.
