2.1.115 - SMP kernel on UP still a problem

are SMP kernels on UP systems supposed to be working ok as of 2.1.115? my
windowmaker 0.17.2 binary (built on 2.0.35 UP with egcs-1.0.3) is segfaulting
in 2.1.115 SMP. i've built 0.17.5 under this kernel, which runs, but doesn't
seem to read config files correctly. i'm going to try the same binary under
2.1.115 UP for consistancy.
