2.1.115 does not print to an Epson 600...

Sometime around 2.1.8x there were problems printing to some printers.
This is still the case for me with 2.1.115 and an Epson 600. Is there
any workaround? I simple cannot run a kernel that doesn't print to
this printer :-( It says the printer is offline. Andrea Arcangeli was
working on the problem but I lost track of it...
