Uh. Change in major and minor numbers is _not_ an API change. It is just
the special devices that have to be upgraded: a system administrator work,
a work of just few seconds without even reboot.
After that _all_ the applications return working as expected.
Here the _only_ real problem is that the thing was not publicized (but I
strongly _don't_ want to criticize anyone) and I was bitten by the
problem with my good old system as other ppl was.
Can I suggest to add a hint into the Changes file about this subject ?

Enclosed a tentative patch to Changes file: CC'ed to the Changes mantainer
too.
