(Apologies for my english :-)

I think there is still a lockup problem in 2.1.116. I've run a torture
test last night (essentially a program forking itself or crashmes with
random
arguments in an endless loop) and after some 7 hours of testing the
kernel
locked up.

As this seems to be a very rare lockup, I'd like to ask more people to
do some
testing and try to reproduce it. I've attached the test and the source
of
crashme to this mail. If you want to try the test, *please be careful*!
Never
run this test as root. Create a new user with restricted rights. Remount
your
partitions read-only. This test is doing a statistical mess, so it could

execute something like that: 'rm -rf /'. (It could even crash the kernel
but
this is unlikely with Linux :). It is also wise to compile the kernel
with SysReq enabled. Please understand that I'll take no responsibility
for
any possible damage or loss of data. (crashme is copyrighted to George
J.
Carrette, GJC@world.std.com, read the code for disclaimer).

I've also a logger task (tlsave) running as root at nice -20 monitoring
/proc/loadavg and /proc/meminfo and these were the last few lines from
the
screen:

The system locks hard (SysReq-s,u,k,i don't work - I was waiting for 2
hours
with no effect). SysReq-m (meminfo) works:

So this doesn't seem to be a low-memory problem. The kernel is 2.1.116
with the two mods from linux-kernel list (if (!(...)) and
~PF_MEMALLOC... )
compiled with SMP, running on UP box (maybe this is the problem ??)

System: Intel Pentium/100, 64 MB RAM, 1.3 GB Fireball EIDE , NE2000
Compiler: gcc 2.7.2.1

I've also traced the EIP with SysReq-p.

These messages appear at the very beginning of the test (as swap space
gets
low for the first time) and there are no other messages logged after
this.
So I think this is ok.

I'm currently setting up a 486 machine to run this test continuosly from

one kernel release to another. Maybe I'll be able to reproduce this
lockup.
(2.1.117 is currently running the test)
