True. But unfortunately we are stuck with lots of ISA cards and we DO
need to support them.

It's not that the BIOS is broken, it just don't have that
functionality. It's too old and there is no way to upgrade it.
It's like if you said to somebody with 486 to upgrade, because he
doesn't have RDTSC instruction. :)
Upgrading sometimes means buying a new computer, and it's not always
a solution.
