ext2 unstable in 2.1.120pre2?

I've been trying to put the latest 2.1.x kernels on my local news server (need
the improved NFS performance). I've tried both 2.1.119pre1 and 2.1.120pre2.
Both have locked the system. With 120pre2, I actually got a message:

Kernel panic: VFS: LRU block list corrupted

I'm not sure if it was the same problem with 119pre1 (no message, machine
responded to keyboard (echoed chars) and pings, but didn't do anything.)

Are there any known stability issues with ext2 in 2.1.x? 2.0.35 works nicely
(albeit slower).
