Actually, HTTP/1.1 is one protocol for which multiple forks of a file
_does_ make sense. Remember that an entity is identified by a URL ("web
filename"), but that entity may have many different streams of content,
determined by the value of any header fields listed in the "Vary:" header
(e.g., Content-Language, Content-Type, Content-Encoding, etc).
