As a followup to my own post, I have verified a similar percentage of
slowdown on every box I own - including a dual PPro SMP machine which went
from a full build in ~4:40 to > 6 minutes. Something has definitely
caused a performance hit.

Please tell me I'm not the only person seeing this...
