The issue with QNX4 vs. some major overhaul of a central
subsystem is that QNX4fs doesn't affect system stability
for people who aren't using it.

Putting AVL or fhashing into the kernel right now, or
changing the scheduling algorithm is something that
affects everyone with non-predictable results. Things
like that are in freeze, carefully-planned add-ons
don't have to be.
