Kernel panic: 2.1.121 with SCSI DAT drive

using 2.1.121 when trying to read a HP DAT drive kills my system
with the following messages:

aha1542.c: Trying device reset for target 3
Kernel panic: scsi_free: Trying to free unused memory
Sent BUS RESET to scsi host 1

configuration:
P5 with 32MB, NCR 810 as scsi host 0 with disks & cdrom connected,
AHA1542 with Tandberg TDC3660 QIC150 (scsi2) and HP DAT 1504/HP35480A drive
(and sometimes external devices). everything actively terminated and
working ok with 2.0.x.

reading from the QIC150 is no problem, but reading from DAT gives kernel panic
no matter if st0 is QIC150 and st1 is DAT (default) or vice versa.

I first tried using 2.1.119, and here reading from DAT `only' issued
two scsi bus resets and then removed the st1 device (no kernel panic).
trying to access st1 again resulted in `no such device or address'
until I unloaded/reloaded the aha1542 driver module to initialze
this host again.

what's weird: before that I've used 2.1.119 in a PPro200 system with
only a single NCR810 and a HP 1534A DAT drive. on this system,
I got no problems reading from _that_ drive (a different one, conneceted
to a different scsi controller). I haven't tried 2.1.121 on this
PPro system and won't be able to do so for 1+ weeks.

any idea what's wrong?

why can I read DAT on a PPro with NCR810 + HP 1534,
but not ona P5 with AHA1542 + HP 1504 in 2.1.119 ?

why do I get a Kernel panic in 2.1.121 ?

Harald
