I also not that I can not see any listing for this device in /proc/interrupts
and that "strace echo L > /dev/ttyS0" hangs and needs to be "kill -9"'ed
from another console.

This all went hooey after running miniterm.c from lpg-0.4 examples.

Gonna have to reboot now.
