mount -o sync not working with 2.0.35

Does the sync option actually work when mounting filesystems?
When I use it on floppy disks (FAT) it appears to not do anything
different at all. Someone told me that the option was there, but
not implemented in kernel yet - a long time ago. Is it now
implemented? Mounting floppies with sync would be nice.
