[2.1.124] Hard lock

2.1.124 locked hard on me earlier today. floppy.o was loaded
and ftape/zftape.o were also loaded. I did an "mt status" which silently
blocked. Within about 5 seconds, the kernel was hung (with no logs).
System is Alpha (Avanti) with QIC-117 drive and 1.44MB floppy.
