1 day-engineer cost is about $500...$1000, and you can have some modern
hardware for such a price. So, a $1000 cost per day guy that is hacking
old hardware is extremally stupid, in my opinion. You can allow old
systems to still exists for centuries if you enjoy having antiques, but
you cannot require new software to full support ad vitam eternam your old
systems.
