Firstly, I apologise for posting my first
message without the madatory background (It was
a reply to a web page pointed at by an earlier linux-kernel
posting)

In conclusion, most computer users are sheep and take whatever
they're given, regardless of technical excellence.
[yes, I got a Betamax video etc...]

However, we have another weapon which no-one has as yet been
underhanded enough to use - even though other big US companies do -
Manipulating what the US Govt. sees as public opinion.

It's easy (well, not for me because I'm in the UK) - all you do
is identify your local senator and tell him whats wrong with the
world, e.g. anti-competative monopolistic practices by certain
companies you don't like, the fact that whilst the US Gov is
taking Microsoft to court they are still spending millions on
their software, and US warships that blue-screen and have to
be towed home.

I've got an email somewhere with the steps indicating how to
identify who you want to speak (its offline somewhere)

This is a weapon that will be used against linux, be sure of it.
But as Asimov(?) said, its a poor sword that has only one blade.

To excuse my posting in the kernel channel with this US-centric
drivel, regarding SMP and APM - if the APM bios is not SMP-safe,
can't we shut down all processors bar one when we activate it and
turn them on again later - I don't mind going UP when my machine
is sleeping :-).
