Ric, Doug,

I'm seeing the same problem on my dual p2-300 system (with, of course, SMP
enabled) with a 2940UW adapter. Things seem to work up to 2.1.120, but ever
since 2.1.121, the aic driver times out trying to detect my drive. 2.1.125
seems to show some promise (things just don't stop), but it still loops
forever while "trying harder." I don't know if this affects the problem at
hand, but I tried lengthening the SCSI timeout and that didn't help.

If there's info I can provide or anything I can try to help solve this
problem, please let me know.

pete

] Hi Doug,
]
] I sent you last week a report of the aic driver giving tons of
] timeouts with a 2940UW adapter.
]
] Last weekend I stopped our SMP production machine (a RC440LX with 2 PII
] 300) with a 7880. It gave me same errors from the very begining, I just
] went back to a stock non_SMP 2.0.35 kernel.
]
] It seems the few people are affected by this timeouts, anyone knows why?
] It's very strange that in our two servers with Adaptecs we have the same
] problem.
]
] How can I send you more information apart of the kernel logs and the boot
] arguments you gave before? (and I already sent the output to you).
]
] Would you recommend to use the old 5.0.20 in cases like mine? If so, do
] you have a clean backpatch? (2.0.36 is coming with the new driver, which
] is unuseful to me and 2.0.35 has 5.0.19, not 5.0.20...).
]
]
] Thanks,
]
