A few requests from the IDE side to condsider.........

Consider using a modified SCSI chipset AEC6210UF, HPT345 IDE-Express,
PDC20246 Ultra/Defender/FastTrak or any other IDE chipset that will
require only one interrupt for supporting four (4) ide-devices.

I truly dislike the wasting of interrupts. Two devices per interrupt is
unacceptable in case. Only Simplex (single hwif access) chipsets really
are in need of this waste........So please avoid them also......

Second, if this is going to be considered for SMP support, I would suggest
decoupling the IDE controller from the Bridge and Host chipset and make it
equal to a free standing PCI slot of the highest priority. or smallest
pci-bus-device number, but greater than that assigned to the Bridge and
Host.

Third, this would allow for a mainboard to have direct support for native
SCSI, by giving the onboard SCSI interrupt 15 that was freed earlier.
So with a single interrupt, four (4) device ide-chipset and a single
interrupt fifteen (15) device SCSI-UW3 would make everyone happy, IMHO.
I have no opinion on the desired SCSI controller, but I have been hearing
that BusLogic is very Linux Friendly and problem free.......No Flames
please, my asbestos (sp) suit is at the tailor.

This is a thought and pocket change for the discussion.

Cheers,
Andre Hedrick
